At Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care – Waltham Family Medicine, we offer comprehensive primary care services across your entire lifecycle. Our team of experienced providers are certified by the America Board of Family Medicine and take a team-based approach to your care.

Patient Information

At Home Newborn Services

Bringing a new baby home is a joyful but overwhelming experience. As family healthcare providers, we respect how busy parents are once arriving home from the hospital. We provide at home visits to patients in Waltham and the surrounding communities.

Visit 1 – First Check, 1-3 days after leaving the hospital
  • Weight/growth assessment
  • Recommendations on feeding, sleeping, diaper checks, fevers, and what to look forward to
  • Follow-up blood work (if necessary)
  • Parent counseling and advice as needed
Visit 2 – Second Check, 1-2 weeks after leaving the hospital
  • Weight/growth assessment
  • Feeding, diaper monitoring, and support
Visit 3 – Third Check, 4-5 weeks after leaving the hospital
  • Weight/growth assessment
  • Advise on what to expect at upcoming immunization and 2 month well child visit in the office

Handouts and advice on your newborn and what to anticipate are provided during these home visits. The health of the whole family is important to us. If family members are Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care – Waltham Family Medicine patients as well, services such as blood pressure checks, immunizations, and counseling can also be provided during these visits.

Our Services

You should see your primary care provider once a year for your annual check-up. You may need additional visits if medical issues arise. We provide the following services:

Preventive Care

  • Adult physicals, including work physicals & immunizations

Management of Chronic Medical Conditions

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol

Diagnosis & Treatment of Acute Illness

  • Allergic reactions
  • Colds and flu
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) infections
  • Respiratory infections
  • Throat and ear infections
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Referrals

If you feel you need to see a specialist and have not discussed the referral with your primary care provider (PCP), please first call your PCP, as they may need to see you prior to referring you to the specialist. Please note the following responsibilities are managed in the practice:

  • Assistance scheduling appointments
  • Radiology prior authorizations
  • Behavioral health referrals
  • Prescription requests and refills

Please call 617-754-1150 to have your insurance referrals processed for specialty care. Existing patients may use MyBILH Chart to request specialist referrals or have prescription refills sent.

Referral requests for specialty care must be submitted a minimum of seven (7) days prior to your appointment to allow for processing, unless the visit is scheduled within seven days of the appointment.

For continuity of care, and the best coordination of care among your providers, your primary care provider will refer you to a Beth Israel Lahey Health specialist. There are important benefits when you see specialists within the Beth Israel Lahey Health system:

Urgent Care - BIDHC-After Hours Clinic

The After Hours Clinic is available to patients who are under the care of a Beth Israel Lahey Health primary care physician (PCP). The After Hours Clinic provides urgent care for patients who are unable to see their primary care physician during regular office hours. The After Hours Clinic is staffed by Beth Israel Lahey Health providers who will share the details of your visit with your primary care physician.

The After Hours Clinic is located at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, giving patients instant access to hospital services including laboratory, radiology and the emergency department. There is plenty of free parking available. The After Hours Clinic is easily accessible through the Main Entrance of the hospital at 148 Chestnut Street in Needham.
