Beth Israel Lahey Health Launches Hospital at Home Program at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center
Program Delivers Inpatient-Level Care for Patients at Home
Burlington, Mass. – Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) has launched its inaugural Hospital at Home program to provide inpatient-level care for patients in the comfort of their home. The service is now available for eligible patients at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. BILH plans to offer this new program at other hospitals within the system over the next few years, beginning with Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals and Winchester Hospital within the next year.
Patients will have 24/7 access to their care team and will be seen with a combination of in-person and telehealth visits. Patients will be provided with all necessary technology including equipment to monitor their vital signs, a telephone to connect directly with their care team and a computer tablet for video visits with the care team. Typical services like lab tests, IV therapies, X-rays and ultrasounds will all be available to be performed in the home.
Care teams will work directly with patients to determine their eligibility for Hospital at Home.
“Hospital at Home will help us further our mission of delivering more care in the community, while also addressing capacity concerns that many hospitals are facing,” said Sue Stempek, Vice President of BILH Hospital at Home. “Hospital at home programs allow patients to remain more mobile and have been shown to improve recovery times. We believe this model is a unique opportunity to change the way we provide care.”
“We are excited to launch Hospital at Home at Lahey, giving our patients the option to recover comfortably at home,” said Susan Moffat-Bruce, MD, PhD, President of LHMC. “Patients will be served by a dedicated care team, working around the clock to ensure they are receiving the best care possible.”
