About Roberta Herman, MD
Dr. Roberta Herman was named President and CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center in January 2020.
Before taking the helm at Joslin, Dr. Herman served as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission (GIC), which administers health insurance and other benefits for 460,000 public employees, retirees, and their families. Prior to that, she was Director of Value Transformation and Healthcare Strategy at Navigant Consulting (now Guidehouse).
Dr. Herman also served as Chief Medical Officer and later Chief Operating Officer for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, one of New England's largest nonprofit managed health care organizations, and Chief of Internal Medicine at Harvard Community Health Plan's Cambridge Center.
Dr. Herman graduated from McGill University Medical School in Montreal. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital and received a master's equivalent degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from McGill while completing a fellowship year in community medicine.
