Caesar Gonzales, MD, MHCM, Named Beth Israel Lahey Health System Chief Medical Officer
Experienced Physician Executive Joins BILH as System Chief Medical Officer
Cambridge, MA — Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) announced today that Caesar Gonzales, MD, MHCM, has joined as system chief medical officer.
Dr. Gonzales is a board-certified anesthesiologist and accomplished physician executive with extensive leadership experience across large, complex integrated delivery systems and academic health care environments. As BILH's system chief medical officer, Dr. Gonzales will be responsible for the overall direction and operational management of clinical initiatives across BILH, including infection prevention, quality and process improvement, patient experience, safety and risk management, laboratory services, emergency management, and credentialing and verification.
“This role is a key part of strengthening our clinical enterprise leadership and advancing our clinical, quality, and patient experience priorities across BILH,” said Rob Fields, MD, MHA, executive vice president and chief clinical officer, BILH. “Caesar’s experience and leadership will be instrumental as we continue this important work.”
Most recently, Dr. Gonzales served as chief clinical officer at Trinity Health Michigan, a nine-hospital system. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at Centra Health in Virginia in a series of physician leadership roles, including chief medical officer.

Dr. Gonzales earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University, medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, and master’s degree in health care management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Health System.
