Michael Rowan Named Executive Vice President for Hospital and Ambulatory Services at Beth Israel Lahey Health
BOSTON – Michael Rowan has been named Beth Israel Lahey Health's Executive Vice President for Hospital and Ambulatory Services, effective August 12. In this role, Michael will oversee Beth Israel Lahey Health's hospital and ambulatory care delivery system, including 13 hospitals and approximately 40 major ambulatory facilities spanning urgent care, imaging, ambulatory surgery, cancer services and comprehensive multi-specialty care.
"Michael will bring to our new system more than 30 years of experience in health care administration and a proven commitment to the kind of transformative change we are working toward as Beth Israel Lahey Health," said Kevin Tabb, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health. "He will play a vital role on our leadership team as we continue to foster integration and coordination in support of our commitment to caring for our patients and our communities in new and better ways."
Most recently, Michael was President of Health System Delivery and Chief Operating Officer at Catholic Health Initiatives. In his 13 years at CHI, he provided strategic direction and operational leadership for the organization's 110 hospitals and hundreds of sites of care in 19 states.
"Beth Israel Lahey Health is reinventing health care in Massachusetts, and I couldn't be more excited to be part of this new organization as it begins to help make health care all it can and should be," Rowan said. "Offering truly exceptional, integrated patient care means bringing together hospitals, ambulatory and urgent care, primary care and behavioral health, and that's what Beth Israel Lahey Health is all about."
Before joining Catholic Health Initiatives, Michael was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Detroit-Based St. John Health (now Ascension Health – Michigan), an integrated delivery system with nine hospitals and $2 billion in net revenue. He also held previous roles as President and Chief Executive of Ohio-based Humility of Mary Health Partners (now Mercy Health – Youngstown) and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System.
Michael received his bachelor of science degree from Miami University and his master of health services administration from the University of Michigan.
