The CDC Has Released Updated Information and Recommendations Regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine
On Tuesday, September 12, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released updated vaccine recommendations. The 2023-24 monovalent COVID-19 vaccines are the only FDA authorized/approved mRNA vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna) for vaccination against COVID-19. Furthermore, this is the only approved vaccine for persons aged 6 months and older. The CDC recommends that all persons within this age range receive the 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine, followed by approval by the CDC Director. The recommendations are as follows:
- Everyone aged 5 years and older is recommended to receive one dose of 2023-2024 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
- Children aged 6 months-4 years should complete a multi-dose series (two doses of Moderna or three doses of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA COVID-19 vaccine) with at least one doses of the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine.
- People who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should complete a three-dose initial series with at least one dose of the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine and receive one or more additional 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine doses.
