Healthcare 360: BILH CEO Talks Healthcare Opportunities
Podcast: BILH CEO Discusses Career Trajectory, Challenges in Healthcare
It’s the first episode of our newest podcast, Healthcare 360, where each week we’ll explore the most compelling topics in healthcare with a recognized industry leader. In this edition, host Dr. Rob Fields, chief clinical officer at BILH, sat down with Dr. Kevin Tabb to learn about his journey from Israeli Army medic to chief executive officer at BILH.
An Unlikely Career Path
According to Dr. Tabb, his career in medicine was entirely unplanned. “I don't come from a family of physicians,” he said. “I never imagined that I wanted to be a doctor.” After joining the Israeli Defense Forces at 18 years old, Dr. Tabb was assigned as a medic, where he fell in love with helping people.
He went to medical school at the end of his service, kickstarting a long career in internal medicine and health administration.
Big Challenges and Big Opportunities
Dr. Tabb’s vast healthcare leadership experience gave him important perspective when the COVID-19 pandemic began, and he cautions listeners who are quick to call this the most difficult time in healthcare. “When I think back over my entire career,” he said, “there have been numerous points when all of us have felt like this is the most difficult time, and then it gets ratcheted up.”
While he acknowledges that today’s healthcare industry still faces unique challenges, he encourages practitioners to find the opportunities therein. “If you think about when we have historically gotten change in healthcare, it’s frequently in times of real need. No one would argue that we are in a time of real need.” This moment could signal an important inflection point for the industry.
Each week, we’ll chat with a leading expert in healthcare to learn about the many challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Listen to the full conversation with Dr. Tabb here, and check in regularly for new episodes of Healthcare 360.
